What ever happened to site guestbooks?

They were all the rage when I built my first website back in the late 90s… I guess I’m just getting old… (lol)

I figure that what happened is that the 419 guys and prescription drug spammers started latching on to them because they were treasure troves of e-mail addresses. That and blogs got more popular and kind of subsumed the whole webpage about my cat + guestbook so that it is now a blog about my cat which you can leave comments on. And considering the spam that gets blocked on my blog (which nobody even reads—not even the authors!), it seems that at least the spammers have caught up with the times.

I’d start thinking about my old guestbook (on a Geocities site, no less—and I made the page back at the time when we were using AOL), but the sheer ugliness of it all would haunt me all day.

i was just thinking this question
    not too intently
but i had to sneaking suspicion that i wouldn’t be able to find it on the internet
    such a random question…
    but here it is…

    time to go to sleep.
